The Tropicana Avenue-Interstate 15 interchange is set to reopen this week, restoring near-full capacity after three years of extensive reconstruction work. This $382 million project has involved significant traffic disruptions, but the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that the interchange will be open by 5 a.m. Thursday. This follows a nearly full-day closure starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday to facilitate final preparations such as road re-striping and traffic signal calibration.
Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President Steve Hill emphasized the long-term benefits of the project. They highlighted the interchange as a crucial access point to the south Strip, Allegiant Stadium, and Harry Reid International Airport, which will significantly enhance traffic flow for residents, visitors, and businesses.
Upon reopening, Tropicana Avenue will feature four lanes in each direction between Polaris Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. The newly renovated interchange includes multiple improvements, such as widened lanes and new ramps, although some areas will still have temporary restrictions due to ongoing median work.
Before the full reopening, there will be a complete closure of Tropicana Avenue between the Strip and Polaris to allow for final adjustments. Additionally, access to Arena and Frank Sinatra drives has been partially restored.
While this milestone marks significant progress, more work remains. The I-15 will see further lane expansions and repaving, scheduled for completion later this year. The project also included the demolition and reconstruction of the Tropicana bridge, adjustments to Dean Martin Drive, and new road additions to enhance overall traffic management in the area.
