David Foster, the producer, emphasizes that while a deep knowledge of “Star Wars” isn’t necessary, the production is crafted to entertain both newcomers and die-hard fans with hidden Easter eggs and jokes. The show draws inspiration from the original trilogy: “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Return of the Jedi.”
“Empire Strips Back” has been successful across the globe, having staged shows in locations like London, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and even internationally in places like Mexico City and several Australian cities. The production is expanding, with plans for runs in Portland, Phoenix, Atlanta, and a tour in the U.K. and Canada.
Foster, a former Spiegelworld CEO, recognized the unique appeal of blending the serious nature of “Star Wars” with the playful, comedic style of burlesque. Choreographer Mariah Lewis highlights the universal language of dance, noting that the show’s appeal extends to a wide audience.
