LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Who hosted their 10th annual Backyard Concert on Friday in Los Angeles, supporting Teen Cancer America and the UCLA Health Center. The event featured guest appearances by Eddie Vedder and performances from the Doobie Brothers, John Fogerty, Def Leppard, Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick.
The concert took place just two days after the Who concluded their North American farewell tour in Thousand Palms, Calif. Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and their band played a seven-song set, which included classics such as “I Can’t Explain,” “Who Are You,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and a version of “The Kids Are Alright,” featuring Vedder.
Vedder also joined Fogerty during his six-song set for a performance of “Fortunate Son.”
Def Leppard marked the occasion with their first all-acoustic concert since 1995, according to setlist.fm. “Good times at the Who’s 2025 Backyard Concert,” the band wrote on social media. “Thanks for having us, it was an honor to be a part of the event.”
Television host and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield described the show on social media as “the greatest backyard concert ever.”
The Who’s Future Uncertain After Farewell Tour
It remains unclear whether the Who will retire from touring after completing The Song Is Over farewell tour. During their final show at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, Townshend addressed the crowd.
“I suppose, you know, it’s goodbye,” Townshend said. “That’s what it is. To what we know as the Who, it’s goodbye. What Roger and I will get up to next, who knows? If we last any longer, I’m sure we’ll get up to all kinds of mischief. We’ll do stuff together, I’m sure, sharing some stuff, all kinds of bits and pieces. But for this kind of thing, it’s goodbye. And you were last.”
