The first anthology dedicated to Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles band, Wings, will be released Nov. 7.
Titled simply “Wings,” the anthology will be available in multiple formats, including single CD, two-CD set, Blu-ray, single LP, and a limited-edition three-LP color vinyl set. The Blu-ray edition marks the first time Wings’ music will be released physically in Dolby Atmos.
The multi-disc editions will include a 32-page booklet featuring photographs, artwork and information about the band. Pre-orders are underway.
Wings, which formed in 1971 and disbanded in 1980, was comprised of McCartney, his wife Linda McCartney, and former Moody Blues member Denny Laine. The group released 23 singles, all of which reached the U.S. Top 40, and produced 14 Top 10 hits. Wings also released five consecutive No. 1 albums in the U.S., had six chart-topping singles and earned 11 Grammy Award nominations, equaling the Beatles’ total. Linda McCartney died April 17, 1998, ending any possibility of a Wings reunion. Laine died in 2023.
The new anthology includes international hits such as “Band on the Run,” “Live and Let Die,” “Jet” and “Let ‘Em In,” alongside deeper cuts like “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five,” “Call Me Back Again” and “I’ve Had Enough.” Many of these songs remain part of McCartney’s live setlists.
McCartney wrote a new introduction for the release and collaborated on the artwork with Aubrey “Po” Powell of Hipgnosis, the design studio that originally worked on Wings albums including “Band on the Run,” “Venus and Mars” and “Wings Over America.” Powell also contributed album-by-album notes for the booklet.
McCartney previously released “Wingspan: Hits and History” in 2001, which reached No. 2 on U.S. charts, but that compilation was not exclusively focused on Wings.
