Micky Dolenz will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Monkees in 2025 with a new tour celebrating the band’s history. According to a press release, Dolenz will perform the Monkees’ hits in chronological order, taking audiences on what is described as “a joyful, musical journey through the Monkees’ history—from chart-topping classics to fan favorites—all told with his signature warmth, wit and stories.”
The tour is scheduled to begin Feb. 12 at Belly Up in Solana Beach, California, and conclude Nov. 6 at MGM Northfield Park – Center Stage in Northfield, Ohio. Dolenz will play a special concert on Sept. 12 in Los Angeles, which marks the 60th anniversary of the debut of “The Monkees” television series. The venue for that show has not yet been announced.
“I’ve spent nearly my entire life either in front of or behind the cameras or microphones,” Dolenz said in a statement. “Much of what I’ve been able to share with the world has come from this thing called ‘The Monkees’—this wacky musical-comedy TV show about a band struggling for success. Interestingly, on the show, the Monkees never actually made it. Off-screen, however, we sold out concerts all over the world.”
Dolenz continued, “Mike [Nesmith] put it perfectly when he said, ‘when we first played, all by ourselves, it was like Pinocchio becoming a real little boy.’ I remain proud of what I’ve achieved in my time, particularly with my late, great and still-beloved Monkee brothers Davy [Jones], Peter [Tork] and Michael. What I want to do, as the 60th anniversary of that wonderful moment is upon me, is to look back and share with the fans the sheer joy of what we accomplished—and what it all still means to so many.”
Dolenz was the lead vocalist on many of the Monkees’ most successful songs, including “I’m a Believer,” “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday” and “Last Train to Clarksville.” He is the only member to participate in every Monkees project over the past six decades and became the last surviving Monkee after Nesmith’s death in 2021.
In 2023, Dolenz performed a solo tour featuring the Monkees’ 1967 album “Headquarters.” He has since included Monkees hits and occasional covers in his performances, but the upcoming anniversary tour will focus exclusively on Monkees songs.
