Metallica to Launch Eight-Show Residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere in October

LAS VEGAS — After months of speculation, Metallica announced Wednesday that the band will headline an eight-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas this October.

The residency, titled “Life Burns Faster,” will continue the group’s “No Repeat Weekend” tradition launched during the 2023 start of the M72 world tour. Under this format, the band will not repeat any songs on each Thursday and Saturday throughout the run.

Two-night “No Repeat Weekend” tickets and single-night tickets go on sale March 6 at 1 p.m. Eastern. Fans can register for tickets and access information about presales, enhanced experiences and travel packages through the band’s official channels.

“About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in 2023, I thought, ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory,’” drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement. “This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months, and way psyched to go next level.”

Metallica’s M72 world tour, which began April 27, 2023, in Amsterdam, has drawn more than 4 million fans across Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim and the Middle East. The tour is set to continue this year, beginning May 9 at Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece, and running through July 5 at London Stadium in London.

Metallica’s Sphere residency dates are set for Oct. 1, 3, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31.

The Sphere, which opened in September 2023 with a residency by U2, features the world’s highest-resolution LED display, wrapping around the audience for an immersive experience. The venue has since hosted artists including Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles, Anyma, Kenny Chesney, the Backstreet Boys, Chase & Status and Zac Brown Band. Upcoming performances include a nine-show run by Illenium in March, nine shows from Phish in April and May, an 18-show run by No Doubt in May and June, and seven shows from Carín León in September. Metallica will be the first hard rock or metal band to perform at the venue.

Additionally, Sphere announced its first live boxing match: a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, scheduled for Sept. 19. The bout will be broadcast live on Netflix. The match follows their 2015 contest, dubbed the “Fight of the Century,” which Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) won by unanimous decision against Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs).
