PinkPantheress released her acclaimed nine-track mixtape “Fancy That” this month, and fans are eager for her to tour with the new project.
The artist has faced criticism as a performer in the past. In an interview with Capital Buzz, she acknowledged the critiques as “fair,” explaining that she doesn’t create music with performance in mind.
“I don’t do music to perform, I think is the thing, and that’s perfectly fine,” she said during the interview. “People probably expect a singer to perform well, and I don’t blame them. I’m not the best performer. But I’m going to get better.”
PinkPantheress added, “No amount of rehearsals can make a difference when you’re in front of thousands. As someone with stage fright, I understand when people say my performances might hinder my career. But if you want to be a big pop diva, performing is key.”
The British artist feels more at ease in intimate settings and doesn’t view performing as a barrier to her growing career. In an earlier conversation with Billboard in May, she revealed that touring with Olivia Rodrigo taught her she’s “not an arena artist.”
“Watching her handle an arena made me realize some people are arena artists and some are not. I’m not,” she confessed. “I learned from her that there are ways to engage with an arena audience. She excelled at it.”
Reflecting on her experience, PinkPantheress said, “Seeing her made me confront my own limitations. I’m not an arena artist—not for lack of trying. As an artist, you’re often told to aim for certain milestones, but I strive where I’m comfortable.”
The 24-year-old opened for Rodrigo for several shows before leaving the tour for health-related personal reasons in 2024.
Regarding “Fancy That,” PinkPantheress drew heavily from the drum and bass genre, citing inspiration from Basement Jaxx and Calvin Harris, and describes it as her sonic magnum opus.
