The Poker Palace Casino, a long-standing establishment in North Las Vegas, is set to close its doors on October 1, bringing an end to nearly five decades of operation. Originally opened in 1974, the casino’s closure will result in the loss of approximately 126 jobs. Notifications regarding the closure have been sent to relevant Nevada state departments and commissions.
The Poker Palace, which began as Bunny’s Bar in 1951, is located close to Nellis Air Force Base. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter dated July 29, the first round of job losses will occur on September 30, and the property is expected to be sold.
The casino offers a variety of gaming options, including slot machines, bingo, table games, sports betting, and poker. It also features Maddy’s Paddy Cafe, named after the grandson of the owners, Marvin “Mickey” and Laura Coleman. The gaming area spans a 25,900-square-foot casino floor.
In the past, the Poker Palace faced regulatory scrutiny. In 2006, an investigation revealed illegal race book activities involving three employees, resulting in a $250,000 fine for supervisory failures.
As of now, details regarding the future of the location remain unconfirmed, as representatives from the Poker Palace have not provided further information.
