Own a Piece of Las Vegas History: Mirage Artifacts Up for Auction

Las Vegas enthusiasts, history aficionados, and collectors have a unique opportunity as Hard Rock Las Vegas auctions off pieces from the iconic Mirage resort. The online auction, which will run for 30 days starting Wednesday, features over 300 items such as the famous bronze mermaids, dolphin statues, a Chihuly art piece, and numerous paintings. These items are remnants of the Mirage’s storied artistic legacy, carefully selected by Hard Rock employees since the resort’s closure last summer.

Joe Lupo, president of Hard Rock Las Vegas, emphasized the significance of the Mirage’s art collection in defining the resort’s unique atmosphere. The auction offers collectors and fans a chance to own a piece of this history. The event is managed by Prime Auctioneers Inc. and will take place on LiveAuctioneer.com.

The Mirage, purchased by Hard Rock International from MGM Resorts for $1.075 billion in 2022, closed on July 17, 2024, after 34 years on the Strip. The closure is part of Hard Rock’s plan to develop its own resort, including a new 660-foot guitar-shaped hotel, expected to open in the latter half of 2027. This transformation involves a complete renovation of the former Mirage structure, marking a new era for the center-Strip location.
