Nevadas Decline in U-Haul Growth Index Reflects Shifting Migration Trends

U-Haul’s latest report indicates a significant decline in arrivals to Nevada, with the state slipping from 11th to 35th in the U-Haul Growth Index for one-way moves. For the first time in several years, Nevada did not register a net gain in arrivals, as incoming U-Haul traffic accounted for 49.7% compared to 50.3% departures. This marks a shift from the previous trend where Nevada consistently had more arrivals than departures in four out of the past five years.

In contrast, South Carolina topped the list for growth states, followed by Texas and North Carolina. U-Haul’s data, derived from over 2.5 million rentals, highlights this shift in migration patterns.

Economic indicators for Las Vegas suggest potential challenges ahead. The city faces high unemployment rates, coupled with declining tourism and gaming revenues. Despite these challenges, home prices remain high, although rental rates have decreased significantly from the previous year. A quarterly economic report from UNLV’s Lee Business School also noted rising economic uncertainty by mid-2025.
