Nevada State Offices Temporarily Closed Due to Network Security Incident

The State of Nevada is currently dealing with a network security incident that has led to the temporary closure of state offices and the disruption of various services. The incident was identified on Sunday, prompting immediate recovery efforts by the state’s technology office. The FBI is assisting in the investigation, though specific details about the breach remain undisclosed. Importantly, it appears that personal identifying information has not been compromised.

As a result of the incident, in-person services at state offices have been paused, and some websites, online services, and phone lines are experiencing outages or delays. Despite these disruptions, emergency services remain operational, with the Nevada Highway Patrol and dispatch lines functioning normally.

The Metropolitan Police Department has warned of potential service interruptions, specifically in its Records and Fingerprint Bureau, which may delay certain transactions. Moreover, the processing of work cards and concealed carry weapon permits could face delays. However, crime and traffic reporting capabilities remain unaffected.

Additionally, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada has temporarily disabled traffic cameras and electronic freeway signs as a precautionary measure.

State authorities are collaborating with local and federal partners to restore services as quickly as possible while implementing temporary solutions to ensure public access. The incident is confined to state government systems and does not impact personal internet or mobile services for residents.

The governor’s office has cautioned residents to be vigilant against scams, advising them to be wary of unsolicited communications requesting personal information or payments.
