McDermott’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Las Vegas has been shut down by the Nevada State Funeral Board due to numerous violations, including failing to cremate bodies within a reasonable timeframe and not submitting death records in accordance with legal requirements. The board revoked the funeral home’s license after an investigation revealed that eight bodies were kept for excessively long periods, some over 10 months, before cremation. Additionally, the funeral home did not file death records within the mandated 72-hour period and, in one instance, delayed initiating a death record for 85 days.
This closure follows a history of complaints against McDermott’s, with issues dating back to 2021. Previous complaints include delays in cremation, failure to honor family requests for witness cremations or ID viewings, and failing to retrieve bodies in a timely manner. As a result of the shutdown, the bodies that were at McDermott’s have been transferred to Davis Funeral Home. McDermott’s has acknowledged its inability to operate due to licensing issues and has marked its status as permanently closed.

August 12, 2025 at 8:29 pmDavis is no better. My friend passed shortly after covid and, to this day as far as I know he still doesn’t have a headstone. His mother paid cash for him and his sister and hers. His sister was a control freak and put his under her name. But, not being a family member to proof read the headstone they are not doing anything about it. So, he lays in the ground without a headstone at sunset and eastern funeral home that is owned by Davis.

August 16, 2025 at 8:21 amThis seems to be an issue in many instances. We had a great experience with our in-laws at Palms but I have heard terrible stories on this front by many.

August 13, 2025 at 2:53 pmI knew this place felt off!! It was such a FIGHT to get them to cremate my grandma after sitting there for over a month! My uncle and I were literally nauseated after leaving this place – and now I know why! What an awful place. I can’t believe these people can even sleep at night knowing how they treat these people. Doesn’t surprise me at all that this is being closed – but it doesn’t make our previous emotional turmoil any easier to deal with.
