Nevada motorists who need in-person vehicle registration, title services, or moving permits must now begin their transactions online, according to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. The new process, effective as of Wednesday, requires customers to start with the state’s MyDMV and DriveNV online services before visiting a DMV office.
The DMV states this change will streamline the intake process, reduce incomplete visits caused by missing paperwork, and free up thousands of appointments each month for those who need in-person assistance. Motorists can access these services and start their transactions at dmv.nv.gov.
Many services, including registrations, duplicate titles, and temporary moving permits, are already available online and at DMVNow kiosks, allowing customers to bypass the need for an in-person visit. However, DMV Director Tonya Laney emphasized that while not every transaction can be completed online, shifting the majority of people to online services will significantly reduce wait times and improve access for those who must visit in person.
Since July 1, the DMV has processed over 190,000 vehicle transactions, with about 118,000 requiring in-person office visits. The department also noted that about one in five customers with appointments did not show up. The recent change was partly inspired by a statewide network outage, highlighting the need to prioritize critical services like driver’s licenses and ID cards for in-person appointments.
Moving more vehicle transactions online will allow the DMV to dedicate more resources and time to essential in-person needs. For more information or to start a transaction, visit dmv.nv.gov.
