A brush fire erupted at Clark County Wetlands Park in the east Las Vegas Valley, burning over 100 acres by 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Clark County Fire Department, with assistance from the Bureau of Land Management, worked to control the fire, which produced a dark smoke visible across the valley. The fire originated in a desert area northeast of Old Silver Bowl Park. Crews anticipated working through the night and reported progress in containing the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This incident marks at least the fourth fire at the wetlands this year, following previous fires in March, April, and earlier in June. By 5 p.m., many people had gathered along Broadbent Boulevard and nearby neighborhoods, capturing photos and videos of the fire. Witnesses described large flames and ash falling into nearby residential areas.
Local resident Emilio Castro, who lives about a mile from the site, noted that this was the largest fire he had seen at the park in his three years living nearby. He mentioned that while campfires from homeless individuals are occasionally observed, they are nothing compared to the current blaze.
Kade Valez, another observer, recounted seeing the fire start while in Lake Las Vegas and watched it grow significantly larger over time.
