Las Vegas Tourism Declines for Eleventh Straight Month Despite Major Events

Las Vegas visitation continued its downward trend in November, falling 5.2 percent year over year to 3.1 million visitors, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. This decline persisted despite the city hosting major events such as the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Automotive Aftermarket Week featuring the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, and three Raiders home games. While SEMA attracted 160,000 attendees, total convention attendance for the month dipped by 0.2 percent to 547,000.

This marks the 11th consecutive month of falling visitation for Las Vegas. Key tourism indicators were down compared to November 2024:

  • Hotel occupancy fell 2 percentage points to 79.4 percent.
  • Average daily room rates dropped 2.9 percent to $193.04, with downtown rates down 10 percent to $90.04.

  • Revenue per available room declined 8.4 percent to $153.27.

The only positive metrics were in highway traffic and gaming revenue. The Nevada Department of Transportation reported that major highway traffic to Las Vegas increased by 2.4 percent to an average of 134,190 daily vehicles, and traffic at the California-Nevada border rose 2.5 percent to 46,040 daily vehicles. However, these figures do not distinguish between locals and tourists.

Airport passenger numbers were also down, with November seeing a 9.6 percent decline to 4.3 million passengers, the sharpest monthly drop in 2025 as reported by the Clark County Department of Aviation.

Despite weaker tourism, Nevada casinos posted strong results. The state’s 441 licensed casinos generated $1.34 billion in gaming win in November, a 2.4 percent increase year over year. This was the fourth-best month of 2025 and the second-best November on record, accomplished without significant gains from the Las Vegas Strip.

For the first 11 months of 2025, the average visitation to Las Vegas is down 7.4 percent to 35.5 million visitors.
