Las Vegas Sports Betting Influencer Vegas Dave Ordered to Pay $30 Million in Cabo Contract Dispute

A Las Vegas sports betting influencer known as “Vegas Dave” has been ordered to pay $30.2 million to Cabo Platinum, an upscale vacation rental agency in Mexico, according to court documents. The judgment, handed down in July by District Judge Timothy Williams, stems from a contentious contract dispute between David Oancea (Vegas Dave) and the rental agency.

Cabo Platinum, which managed rentals at Oancea’s Mexican properties, alleged that Oancea abruptly terminated their agreement in April 2024 despite the company having paid him in full or in part for various guest stays. After the termination, court records state that Oancea began blocking guests from accessing his properties, forcing Cabo Platinum to scramble for alternative accommodations and issue refunds, resulting in significant financial losses.

The situation escalated when Oancea reportedly used the company’s homeowners list to send disparaging emails about Cabo Platinum and its principals, accusing them of fraud and other misconduct. Cabo Platinum’s managing partner, Mishan Andre, denied any wrongdoing and said the company operates ethically.

The judgment also noted that Oancea attempted to persuade guests to cancel with Cabo Platinum and book directly through him, which the court viewed as evidence of intentional harm to the company’s business.

Both parties filed lawsuits against each other in Clark County District Court in May 2024. Oancea’s claims, which included breach of contract and fraud, were dismissed by District Judge Maria Gall. The court sided with Cabo Platinum, issuing a preliminary injunction against Oancea and later granting punitive damages due to what Judge Williams called “despicable” conduct that caused “cruel and unjust hardship” to Cabo Platinum.

Oancea, who previously pleaded guilty in 2019 to record-keeping violations related to casino accounts, has appealed the multimillion-dollar judgment. As of the latest hearings, legal actions between the two sides remain ongoing.
