Over the holiday weekend, law enforcement in the Las Vegas area intensified efforts to curb impaired driving through a coordinated “DUI blitz.” The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, in collaboration with the Henderson Police Department, Boulder City Police, and the Nevada State Police, conducted a series of traffic operations resulting in 861 stops. This initiative led to the issuance of 473 citations and 68 DUI arrests.
Additionally, the operation saw seven arrests for non-DUI offenses, with officers recovering three firearms and 1,175 grams of methamphetamine. These efforts come in response to the concerning number of traffic-related fatalities in the region, with 85 deaths reported so far this year compared to 82 at the same time last year.
In a related statewide effort, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported 939 traffic stops, leading to 744 citations and 30 arrests, 27 of which were DUI-related. This comprehensive approach highlights law enforcement’s commitment to reducing impaired driving and enhancing road safety.
