Hormel Foods is recalling nearly 4.9 million pounds of its frozen boneless chicken products after reports that customers found metal fragments in the chicken breast and thigh items. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the metal originated from a conveyor belt used in production. No illnesses or injuries have been reported.
The recalled products, labeled as Hormel Fire Braised chicken, were distributed nationwide to HRI Commercial Food Service, a restaurant supply company, between February 10 and September 19. These products were not sold directly to consumers but supplied to restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, and other commercial food service outlets.
The USDA urges hotels, restaurants, and cafeterias to check their freezers and discard any recalled chicken. Hormel Foods has notified all affected customers. For more information or questions about the recall, consumers can contact Hormel Foods via their website or call 1-800-523-4635.
