Former Allegiant Air Employee Charged with Embezzling $300,000 in Settlement Funds

A former employee of Allegiant Air, Alexis Herrera, was charged with theft after allegedly embezzling nearly $300,000 from the airline. The charges come months after Allegiant accused her of diverting settlement funds intended for passengers with lost or damaged baggage to her own accounts. Herrera, who joined Allegiant in 2017, was promoted in August 2022 to a role where she managed the company’s baggage settlement process.

Allegiant’s lawsuit claims that Herrera manipulated payment files for 83 transactions between October 2022 and fall 2024, redirecting the funds to her bank account. The investigation began when a passenger reported not receiving their settlement, uncovering that multiple payouts were sent to email addresses linked to Herrera. Upon confrontation, Herrera admitted to the misconduct and was suspended and then terminated after agreeing to repay the embezzled funds, but she failed to do so.

In February, a court ruled in favor of Allegiant, awarding them over $260,000 in damages. Herrera’s legal representative did not comment on the case, and records show that she is no longer in custody.
