Clark County has issued a warning about a scam involving text messages that urge recipients to click a link to pay supposed outstanding traffic tickets. These messages appear to be from “Las Vegas Courts” and claim that there is an unpaid traffic ticket, threatening fines or legal action if not addressed within 12 hours.
A county spokesperson clarified that the Las Vegas Justice Court does not request payments via text message and advised against clicking any links in such messages. This scam began circulating on Friday afternoon, prompting the court to contact the Metropolitan Police Department. Chief Justice of the Peace Melisa De La Garza mentioned that other judges and an attorney have also received these messages, suggesting the scam could be widespread.
In a related warning, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported a similar scam involving emails that falsely demand payment for Highway Patrol tickets, threatening fines and license suspension. Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and verify any suspicious communications independently.
