Aaron Ford Announces 2026 Nevada Governor Bid Against Joe Lombardo

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has officially announced his candidacy for the 2026 gubernatorial race, challenging the incumbent Republican Governor Joe Lombardo. Ford, who made history as Nevada’s first African American statewide officeholder, launched his campaign with a series of events that included a prayer circle and community engagement.

Ford received early endorsements from prominent Nevada Democrats, including U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, highlighting his support within the party. His campaign centers on themes of accountability and progress, drawing on his record as attorney general, where he addressed issues such as the backlog of rape kits and secured significant settlements from drug companies.

In his address, Ford emphasized his personal journey from humble beginnings to public service, underscoring his understanding of the challenges faced by many Nevadans. He criticized Governor Lombardo’s policies, particularly in areas like immigration, housing, and education. Ford pledged to prioritize affordable housing, healthcare, and education if elected.

The political landscape is already heating up, with Ford facing potential primary competition from Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill. Meanwhile, Lombardo’s campaign and its supporters have been critical of Ford, accusing him of promoting a “woke agenda.”

As the campaign progresses, the race is expected to feature debates on key issues affecting Nevada, with both candidates presenting contrasting visions for the state’s future.
