Memorial Day events across the Las Vegas Valley offer numerous opportunities for residents to honor and remember those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
In Las Vegas, Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske will host the “Walk of Honor” on Friday evening at Police Memorial Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of service members and participate in a candle-lit walk to honor veterans. The event includes a flag display available throughout the weekend.
On Monday, Councilwoman Victoria Seaman will lead a ceremony at Lake Sahara South Park at 9:30 a.m., with participation from Nevada Post 76.
In North Las Vegas, a Memorial Day barbecue and resource fair is scheduled for Saturday at the Veterans and Community Resource Center. The event will feature a car show with vehicles from the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Nellis Air Force Base, providing an opportunity for veterans and their families to connect with local support organizations.
Henderson’s Cornerstone Park will display over 500 American flags starting Friday, with the “Field of Honor” ceremony on Monday morning.
Neighborhood events include Inspirada’s “Honoring the Fallen” ceremony and the Southern Highlands Community Association’s event supporting the Nellis & Creech Air Force bases. The latter includes field games, food trucks, and fireworks, with proceeds benefiting Operation Warm Heart.
The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City will host several ceremonies. Flag placement begins Saturday morning, followed by the Special Forces Ceremony on Sunday. Monday’s events include a ceremony featuring speakers and a presentation of nearly 7,000 dog tags by the UNLV Rebel Vets, honoring those who have fallen in the Global War on Terrorism.
