Kendrick Lamar Makes Chart and Concert History with The Most Successful Hip Hop Record of The Decade with His Track “LUTHER”

Kendrick Lamar has once again made chart history with his track “Luther” holding the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for twelve consecutive weeks. This collaboration with SZA now boasts the longest run at number one for a song featuring co-billed solo male and female artists, surpassing Diddy and Faith Evans’ 1994 tribute to Biggie, “I’ll Be Missing You.” The only collaborative track to top the chart for a longer period is Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.”

“Luther” is also the most successful Hip Hop single of the decade, overtaking Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” which led the chart for 11 weeks in 2020. Despite being released last November, “Luther” continues to dominate, with the duo extending their personal bests for time spent at the top. In its twelfth week, the song garnered 65.4 million radio airplay impressions, alongside 19.1 million streams and 2,000 sales, maintaining its status as the most played song on U.S. radio.

In other chart news, Drake’s “Nokia” from the $ome $exy $ongs 4 U album holds strong, slipping only slightly to number five. Doechii’s “Anxiety” has reached a new peak at number nine.

Kendrick Lamar’s record-breaking streak extends beyond the charts. He recently achieved the highest-grossing show by a Black artist in history at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This performance, part of his Grand National Tour co-headlined by SZA, brought in an impressive $11.822 million in one night, surpassing The Weeknd’s previous record of $9.8 million set at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in 2022.

Earlier in the tour, Kendrick shattered another record for the highest-grossing rap concert, a title formerly held by Eminem from his 2019 Australian tour. The opening night in Minneapolis grossed over $9.1 million from more than 47,000 attendees, with an average ticket price of $192.70, marking the first rap concert to surpass $9 million in a single night.
