Whirlpool Corp. announced a $300 million expansion of its manufacturing operations, a move expected to create up to 600 jobs at facilities in central Ohio.
Most of the new positions will be at the company’s washing machine plant in Clyde, while about one-third will be at the Marion dryer factory, according to a news release issued Wednesday. The expansion is also projected to generate about 5,000 additional jobs outside the company.
“This $300 million investment in our Clyde and Marion facilities underscores our dedication to creating jobs, fostering innovation, and delivering high-quality, American-made appliances to U.S. consumers,” Marc Bitzer, chairman and CEO of Whirlpool, said in a statement.
Whirlpool said the new investment in its laundry manufacturing facilities is part of the $23 billion it has invested in U.S. operations, logistics and workforce over the past decade.
The Clyde plant is the largest washing machine facility in the world, according to Whirlpool. The Marion plant marked its 70th anniversary in September.
