Olivia Rodrigo provided free therapy for her crew during and after the Guts tour, a gesture that left rhythm guitarist Daisy Spencer deeply appreciative. Spencer discussed the experience on the StageLeft podcast, revealing that she had been struggling to maintain her therapy routine due to difficulty finding the right therapist.
During the Guts World Tour, which began in California in February 2024 and continued internationally until July 1 in Manchester, U.K., Rodrigo and tour manager Marty Hom offered accessible therapy to all touring personnel, Spencer said. “I have never had anything like that,” she noted, explaining that it reignited her commitment to therapy.
Spencer, 31, said she attended therapy sessions weekly or biweekly, even when the tour was not active. “Honestly, that was one of the coolest things that has ever happened on tour,” she said. “Accessible free therapy is one of the best things you can give people because it can get expensive.”
Having toured since age 17, Spencer said the sessions helped her process unaddressed trauma from her youth. “I was finally getting to hear baby Daisy’s story,” she said.
Rodrigo, 22, has previously spoken about starting therapy as a teenager, which she credited with helping her prioritize her mental health. In a 2021 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she described therapy as a “life-changing moment” that taught her much about herself.
“Sometimes people trivialize young people’s problems, thinking they’ll get through it,” Rodrigo said then. “But it feels real, and it’s valid.”
Rodrigo joins a growing list of artists who have been candid about their mental health, including Adele, Billie Eilish, and Demi Lovato, among others.
Spencer described the on-the-road therapy as “a gift,” emphasizing the importance of self-reflection and professional guidance in addressing personal challenges.
As of press time, a spokesperson for Rodrigo had not responded to Billboard’s request for comment on Spencer’s interview.
