Ed Sheeran is teaming up with Netflix for a new special, “One Shot With Ed Sheeran,” the singer announced in an Instagram post Monday night.
The special, directed by Emmy winner Philip Barantini, known for the British crime drama “Adolescence” and the 2021 film “Boiling Point,” will debut Nov. 21. It will be filmed in a single, continuous take—an approach Barantini has used in previous projects.
According to a description of the special, cameras will follow Sheeran through the streets of New York City as he performs impromptu versions of his greatest hits for pedestrians, both on sidewalks and in subway cars.
Sheeran released his eighth studio album, “Play,” in September. The promotional campaign for the album has included several unconventional projects. Last month, Sheeran performed a livestreamed NPR Tiny Desk concert just hours after the album’s release. In July, he covered “Teenage Dirtbag” with Wheatus singer Brendan B. Brown. He also collaborated with Indian artist Arijit Singh for the single “Sapphire,” blending traditional Indian music with his pop style, and filmed a music video for the song in India. To promote “Play,” Sheeran set up pink phone booths around Europe and launched an Instagram account featuring previously unreleased photos ahead of the single “Old Phone.”
Sheeran will resume touring Dec. 1 with a show at Zenith in Paris, followed by dates in Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland. He is scheduled to perform in Australia and New Zealand in January and February.
