Beyoncé will serve as co-chair of the 2026 Met Gala, organizers announced Wednesday, joining Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and tennis champion Venus Williams. Vogue revealed the announcement in an Instagram video set to Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” which displayed the co-chairs’ names and previewed the 2026 gala theme: “Costume Art.”
According to Vogue, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual event will highlight its spring Costume Institute exhibition, also titled “Costume Art.” The exhibition will explore the relationship between clothing and the human body, featuring themes such as “the Naked Body,” “the Pregnant Body” and “the Aging Body.” Andrew Bolton will curate the exhibit, continuing the tradition of pairing the gala with a museum exhibition.
Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will lead the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee. Committee members include Sabrina Carpenter, Lisa of BLACKPINK, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson and Yseult.
Beyoncé, a 35-time Grammy Award winner, last attended the Met Gala in 2016, when she wore a beaded peach Givenchy Haute Couture gown in keeping with the “Manus x Machina” theme. Previous years’ appearances included a sheer, jeweled dress for 2015’s “China: Through the Looking Glass,” an elegant black design with netted veil for 2014’s “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” and a black-and-gold gown for 2013’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”
The 2026 Met Gala will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
