California Man and Accomplices Face Charges in Luxury Car Fraud Scheme

A California man, Xui Jie “Johnny” Chen, along with Jin Wei Chen of New York and Yue Yuan of China, appeared in a Las Vegas federal court, accused of using over 5,000 U.S. drivers’ licenses to fraudulently acquire luxury cars. The licenses, belonging to citizens in at least 14 states, were allegedly used by co-conspirators to secure bank financing under false pretenses. The charges include bank fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft, with potential penalties of up to 30 years in prison and mandatory sentences for identity theft. The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security and other local agencies. Their trial is scheduled for July 14.
