December in Las Vegas began with warm, dry conditions, but that changed during Christmas week, when two storms brought significant rainfall to the valley. Harry Reid International Airport recorded 0.45 inches of rain for the month, which is about average for December. Notably, December 2024 saw no measurable rain, in stark contrast to this year.
The rain on New Year’s Eve set a new daily record at the airport, with 0.32 inches falling and breaking the previous record of 0.21 inches from 1943. This weather event was significant enough to be one of the main local stories for the New Year’s week. Dense fog also affected Southern Nevada and neighboring states, causing some flight delays early Friday.
The forecast called for more unsettled weather, with a 30 percent chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday, and temperatures staying mild, with highs near 58–62 degrees.
December 2025 was also the warmest on record for Las Vegas, with an average median temperature of 54.8 degrees—6.6 degrees above normal. December 11 reached a record high of 74 degrees. This unseasonable warmth followed a record-setting wet November. The warm, dry spell was attributed to a ridge of high pressure off the Southern California coast, which finally broke on Christmas Eve as tropical moisture brought rain to the region.
For the year, Harry Reid International Airport recorded 5.41 inches of rain—well above the average of 4.18 inches—making 2025 the wettest year since 2019, when 6.87 inches were recorded.
