David Ross: Redefining Education in Columbus

In the heart of Columbus, Ohio, David Ross is making history and reshaping what education can truly mean for young students and their families. As the youngest Black founding principal and CEO in the city, Ross opened LINC Academy in the Franklinton neighborhood, a tuition-free public elementary school grounded in social emotional learning, academic excellence, and a deep sense of community. With more than a decade of service on Columbus’s west side, Ross built LINC with a clear purpose: to meet the real needs of local families while creating an environment where students feel valued, supported, and capable of thriving. In its very first year, the school achieved a rare milestone with zero suspensions, proving that discipline guided by empathy and emotional intelligence can be both practical and empowering.

LINC Academy is quickly becoming more than a school; it’s a movement toward equity, leadership, and meaningful connection. Ross’s vision is centered on preparing students not just for tests, but for life, helping them build resilience, confidence, and a strong moral compass. By forming lasting partnerships with parents, local mentors, and community organizations, he is creating a space where education feels relevant and inspiring. In a city striving for innovation and inclusion, Ross stands as a powerful example of what it means to lead with purpose and uplift an entire community through education.
