$160 Million Project To Improve Henderson 215 Beltway Traffic Will Take 3 Years

A significant infrastructure project is set to commence on the 215 Beltway in Henderson, aiming to address traffic congestion and accommodate the area’s rapid population growth. The $160 million initiative will widen a three-mile stretch of the freeway from Pecos Road to Stephanie Street, adding two lanes in each direction. This expansion will transform the current setup of three lanes and an auxiliary lane into five lanes and an auxiliary lane in both directions.

The project, funded by Clark County’s Master Transportation Improvement Fund, involves collaboration between Henderson, the county, and the Nevada Department of Transportation. The construction bid was awarded to Las Vegas Paving, with costs totaling $160 million, including contingencies and labor.

Initial construction activities will focus on installing barrier rails and retaining walls, minimizing travel disruptions by mainly conducting work outside the freeway’s travel lanes. Some overnight work will reduce lanes to two in each direction between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

In addition to the freeway expansion, upgrades are planned for Green Valley Parkway. A diverging diamond interchange will be constructed at the intersection with the 215, designed to enhance traffic flow without requiring a bridge demolition or road widening. This setup allows vehicles to turn left onto freeway on-ramps without stopping, thus improving traffic efficiency.

Furthermore, a bridge will be built over Green Valley Parkway at Village Walk Drive, facilitating safe pedestrian and cyclist crossing between the two sides of The District at Green Valley Ranch shopping mall. This bridge also enhances safety for users of the 215 Beltway Trail.

These developments are part of a broader effort to improve the 215 Beltway, following previous expansions between Pecos and Windmill Avenue, and from Interstate 15 to Charleston Boulevard. The project is scheduled for completion in just under three years, with work on the Green Valley Parkway interchange starting anytime after January 1. The enhancements are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
