Judge Judy has named her own son, Adam Levy, as the person she believes should carry on her TV legacy. After announcing her official retirement, she spoke with PEOPLE and gave her son a strong endorsement. She said, “There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted. He has what it takes.”
Levy, who followed his mother into law, shared that he picked up many lessons from her. He remembered Judge Judy’s practical advice about money. She didn’t hand out cash unless he had a good reason. He also took a different path at one point, turning down a job offer to spend a year as a ski instructor. Judge Judy made it clear she did not approve of that decision.
When a representative from the Suffolk County district attorney’s office called to offer him a job, Judge Judy stepped in. She told them he would take the role, making the decision for him.
Levy later worked in private practice and served two terms as district attorney in Putnam County, New York. He also joined Tribunal Justice, where he worked on the show for three seasons. Judge Judy believes this experience helped prepare him to take over her role. She admitted that he might not have been ready eight years ago, but she feels confident in him now.
She also spoke about her own decision to leave TV. Judge Judy said she wants to focus on other interests and no longer wants the routine of hair and makeup. Still, she wants to keep sharing her message.
