Hayden Panettiere died at age 36, and less than a month later, police shared a theory about her cause of death. Investigators believe she took an oxycodone pill that contained fentanyl. Sources connected to the case told TMZ that Panettiere had a long-term drug dealer in Los Angeles who sold her several black-market prescription drugs, including the oxycodone in question.
On the day before her death, Panettiere reportedly traveled from Los Angeles to South Carolina. Those close to the investigation say she took several drugs bought from her dealer while on her flight. The next morning, she took the oxycodone pill suspected to be tainted.
She was found unresponsive by the brother of her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson. When first responders arrived, Hickerson gave them a bag of Panettiere’s prescription medication. He also said he tried to revive her with Narcan before help arrived.
The DEA in both Los Angeles and South Carolina are now looking into the connection between Panettiere and her dealer. Police say the theory about the fentanyl-laced pill is their current lead, but toxicology results have not been released. The investigation continues as authorities gather more information.
