Prayers Up: Masika Kalysha Speaks Out After Estranged Husband Jamar Champ Dies in Houston Car Crash
Masika Kalysha has broken her silence following the tragic death of her estranged husband, Jamar Champ, who was killed in a car accident in Houston.
Early Tuesday morning, October 28, Masika Kalysha took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her grief with followers, posting: “God woke me up at 2:00am… I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know why. Jesus Christ I just received the worst news of my life. Pray for me and my kids please.”
According to reports from KHOU, a BMW traveling in the wrong direction slammed head-on into a Tesla Cybertruck on the Katy Freeway just after midnight. The BMW was reportedly heading west in the eastbound lanes when it crashed into the Tesla, causing both vehicles to burst into flames. The impact also sent the Cybertruck into a nearby semi. Both drivers—Jamar Champ, identified as the driver of the Cybertruck, and the BMW driver—were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating whether impairment played a role in the crash, noting that wrong-way drivers are a recurring problem in the area.
Later that day, Masika Kalysha posted on Instagram, asking media outlets to avoid sharing details of Jamar Champ’s death. She explained that her two daughters, including the one she shares with Champ, were at school at the time, and she wanted to inform them herself, rather than have them learn about the tragedy from classmates or parents.
She subsequently released an exclusive statement to The Shade Room, further requesting privacy and prayers for her family.
Masika Kalysha and Jamar Champ married in 2021 and share a 3-year-old daughter named Amari. Kalysha also has an older daughter, Khari, with rapper Fetty Wap. The couple separated in 2023, and by 2024, Kalysha confirmed they were undergoing mediation as part of their divorce.
The news of Champ’s passing prompted an outpouring of support online. Social media users offered condolences and prayers for Kalysha, her children, and Champ’s family.
One commenter, identifying themselves as a former classmate, remembered Champ as a devoted father who grew closer to his faith after becoming a parent. Others expressed heartbreak and offered prayers for the family during this difficult time.
Kalysha herself responded to the messages, writing, “please pray for me and my girls.”
The loss of Jamar Champ has left a significant impact on his loved ones and community, as friends and family mourn his passing and support Masika Kalysha and her daughters.
