The holidays are known for overindulging and overspending, which is bad news when nearly 22% of U.S. adults report binge drinking in the past month and the average household has over $10,950 in credit card debt. To see where these and other vices are most costly, the personal-finance company WalletHub today released its report on the 2025’s Most Sinful Cities in America, which compares more than 180 U.S. cities based on seven sinful behaviors: anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness.

Most vs. Least Sinful
- Warwick, Rhode Island, has the lowest violent crime rate, which is 51.3 times lower than in Oakland, California, the city with the highest violent crime rate.
- Huntsville, Alabama, has the fewest thefts per 1,000 residents, which is 15.3 times fewer than in Oakland, California the city with the most thefts per 1,000 residents.
- Fremont, California, has the lowest share of obese adults, which is 3.4 times lower than in Jackson, Mississippi, the city with the highest.
- Fremont, California and Seattle, Washington, have the lowest share of adult smokers, which is 3.3 times lower than in Cleveland, Ohio, the city with the highest.
