Ohio Statehouse To Hosts Vintage Baseball Game

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Village Muffins and Lady Diamonds will play the Capitol Cannons, a team of state senators and representatives, in an old-fashioned “base ball” exhibition game Tuesday, May 12, on the Ohio Statehouse West Lawn.

The game runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A blast from the 1864 cannon, with help from the Statehouse’s 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery A, will signal the start.

Admission is free and open to the public. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Momma’s Burger Bites food truck.

The game will use rules from the 1860s, so some may look different from modern baseball. The pitcher will throw underhand from behind the pitcher’s line. A ball caught on a bounce is an out. Base runners cannot steal or slide feet-first.

The exhibition will last seven innings. Attendees can watch the game, enjoy food outdoors and see the cannon in action.
