Mitchell’s Steakhouse has closed its downtown Columbus location after decades of service.
Landry’s, the Houston-based company that owns Mitchell’s Steakhouse, confirmed the closure of the restaurant at 45 N. Third St. The Polaris location of Mitchell’s Steakhouse will remain open.
“After many wonderful years serving the downtown Columbus community, Mitchell’s Steakhouse on North 3rd Street has made the difficult decision to close its doors,” said Shah Ghani, chief operating officer of Landry’s, in a statement.
Ghani thanked guests and team members for their support over the years and said the company is working to transition employees to other locations. He invited customers to visit Mitchell’s Steakhouse Polaris, Columbus Fish Market and Mastro’s Steakhouse.
The downtown Mitchell’s Steakhouse opened in the late 1990s. Columbus restaurateur Cameron Mitchell founded the brand under Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.
In 2008, Ruth’s Chris Steak House bought Mitchell’s Steakhouse and more than a dozen Mitchell’s Fish Market locations for $92 million, according to local news reports. Landry’s purchased both concepts from Ruth’s Chris in 2014 for $10 million and has operated them since then.
Landry’s operates more than 600 restaurants, entertainment and gaming venues across the country.
Mitchell’s Steakhouse, according to its website, is known for prime steaks, seafood and a wine list with more than 200 labels. The restaurant highlights its fine dining service and interior design with leather and wood accents.
Mitchell’s Steakhouse Polaris is open noon to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, 4 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
