John Glenn Columbus Airport Walking Lot Closing for New Public Safety Building

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Changes are coming for visitors looking to park at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

Beginning May 4, the airport’s Walking Lot will permanently close, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority announced. The closure will make way for a new public safety building, part of the airport’s CMH Next terminal project. The building will house offices, training facilities and the public safety communications center.

Short-term parking will remain available through the airport’s valet service and attached parking garage. Travelers may also use the Red and Green Shuttle Lots, which offer shuttle service to the terminal every 15 to 18 minutes. Real-time parking availability is posted at FlyColumbus.com.

A spokesperson for the airport said cell phone waiting lots will not be affected by the changes.

Construction is underway on the $2 billion CMH Next project, which includes a new terminal spanning nearly 1 million square feet, a public safety building and a parking garage connected to the terminal by a pedestrian bridge, providing more than 5,000 spaces. The new facility is expected to open in early 2029.
