GRANVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Granville has been recognized as one of the best small towns in the Midwest by Midwest Living magazine.
The lifestyle publication, owned by the parent company of People, released its annual “Best of the Midwest Awards” last month, highlighting top picks across categories including hotels, resorts and restaurants.
Granville, located about 30 miles east of Columbus, was one of 12 towns featured on the magazine’s list. Midwest Living described Granville as having a “storybook New England vibe,” noting its colonial-style homes, church steeples and candy-striped shop awnings. The magazine also highlighted Denison University, which sits on a hilltop overlooking the village.
Among the attractions mentioned were local coffee shops such as OneLove Cafe and Station, as well as outdoor recreation options like the TJ Evans Trail and Spring Valley Nature Preserve. The village, with a population of approximately 6,300, is also home to the Robbins Hunter Museum and the Buxton Inn, one of Ohio’s oldest continuously operated hotels.
Midwest Living’s list featured one small town from each of the 12 Midwestern states it covers:
– Ashland, Nebraska
– Decorah, Iowa
– Galena, Illinois
– Granville, Ohio
– Hot Springs, South Dakota
– Leland, Michigan
– Lindsborg, Kansas
