As dangerous heat grips the area this week, LifeCare Alliance is urging the public to donate box fans for people who need relief.
The nonprofit has provided fans to older adults, people with disabilities, and families without air conditioning for 20 years.
This week, LifeCare Alliance canceled fan distribution because of a supply shortage.
“A fan can save somebody’s life because they just don’t have any access,” said Chuck Gehring, LifeCare Alliance president and CEO. “A lot of our clients—seniors and people with medical challenges—can’t drive to the mall or library to stay cool.”
Gehring encourages you to check on neighbors or anyone you know who lacks air conditioning during the extreme heat.
You can donate new, in-the-box fans at any fire station in Franklin, Madison or Marion counties. Fans can also be purchased through LifeCare Alliance’s Amazon page and shipped to the organization.
Distribution will resume when more fans are donated.
