After more than 60 years, The Rolling Stones continue to generate buzz with hints of a new project called “Foreign Tongues.”
The band teased the project on its official social media pages, posting images of posters spotted in several cities worldwide. The posters feature the band’s lips logo and the phrase “Familiar Tongues” in multiple languages.
A QR code on the posters links to a Rolling Stones microsite. The site promotes “Subversive Scents,” with products named after classic tracks such as “Sticky Fingers” and “Urban Jungle.”
This campaign follows a recent poster drop for the band’s alter ego, The Cockroaches, which also used a QR code. Fans who scanned the code landed on a website operated by Universal Music, the Stones’ label. That campaign led to a limited-edition vinyl release titled “Rough & Twisted.”
The band’s most recent album, “Hackney Diamonds,” came out in 2023. The 24th studio album includes collaborations with Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lady Gaga, and Stevie Wonder, and features the last recordings with drummer Charlie Watts. “Hackney Diamonds” won the Grammy for best rock album.
In December, reports surfaced that the Stones canceled plans for a 2026 U.K. and European tour, though dates were never officially announced. Variety, citing a source close to the band, reported that guitarist Keith Richards, 82, could not commit to another tour.
Producer Andrew Watt told Rolling Stone magazine in September that he is working with the Stones on a follow-up to “Hackney Diamonds,” calling the experience unique. Guitarist Ronnie Wood said in the same month that fans can expect a new album in 2026.
What do you hope to hear from the next Rolling Stones release? Will the band’s new project live up to its legacy?
