North Las Vegas is set to welcome a new satellite campus for Nevada State University, with construction expected to begin next year. The three-story, 30,000-square-foot facility will be located along the north side of Lake Mead Boulevard, just west of Las Vegas Boulevard, on currently vacant land. The campus is projected to open in fall 2027.
This expansion aims to address transportation barriers for students who currently commute to Nevada State’s main campus in Henderson. The new location, described as the anchor tenant of a downtown redevelopment project, offers proximity to Interstate 15 and public transportation, making it more accessible for local students.
Agora Realty & Management, the California-based developer, owns 19 acres in the area and plans additional retail and office developments nearby. The Nevada System of Higher Education’s Board of Regents recently approved a lease agreement for the academic building, which will focus initially on teacher education programs. The lease is set at $900,000 per year, with 3 percent annual increases, and includes a 10-year term with options to extend or purchase.
Funding for the project includes $7.53 million from the North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency to cover rent and operating costs for the first five years, $2.5 million from the Nevada Legislature for academic programming, a $500,000 anonymous donation, and $250,000 from NV Energy to help expand higher education access in the city.
This new campus will complement existing higher education institutions in North Las Vegas, such as the College of Southern Nevada, and aligns with long-term plans by UNLV for a larger “north campus” in the city. The satellite campus is expected to play a significant role in meeting workforce development needs and supporting student success in the region.
