Yes’ 1973 double album, “Tales From Topographic Oceans,” will be reissued in a major expanded edition early next year.
The new box set will include 12 CDs and a Blu-ray disc featuring various remixes and remasters. It is scheduled for release on Feb. 6.
A single edit of the album’s opening track, “The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn),” is available now.
The “Tales From Topographic Oceans (Super Deluxe Edition)” will include a newly remastered version of the album, along with previously unreleased studio and live recordings. A remastered vinyl edition will also be released.
Producer Steven Wilson, known for his work remixing several previous Yes albums, has created new mixes for this edition, including a Dolby Atmos version.
Originally released in December 1973, “Tales From Topographic Oceans” was Yes’ sixth album, following their early 1970s progressive rock releases “The Yes Album” (1971), “Fragile” (1971), and “Close to the Edge” (1972). The double album contains only four tracks, one per side, and was the first Yes album to feature drummer Alan White, who replaced Bill Bruford. The album reached No. 6 on the charts but received mixed reviews at the time due to its ambitious, extended compositions.
What’s Included in the Super Deluxe Edition
The new edition will feature a remastered version of the original LP, Steven Wilson’s remixes of the four tracks from “Tales From Topographic Oceans,” and instrumental versions. The set also includes a disc of rare recordings, such as single edits, work-in-progress versions, and live performances from 1973 and 1974 recorded in Manchester and Zurich.
