COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dutch Bros, a national coffee chain, is planning to open its first central Ohio location in northeast Columbus.
According to a preliminary site plan filed with the City of Columbus in August, Dutch Bros is working toward opening a shop at 5470 N. Hamilton Road. The proposed site is in the Preserve North neighborhood, just west of New Albany and north of Gahanna.
Plans for the 1.9-acre property call for a 986-square-foot building with a drive-thru and several parking spaces. The preliminary plan does not specify whether indoor seating will be available. Most Dutch Bros locations offer only a drive-thru and walk-up window.
Dutch Bros recently began expanding into Ohio. The company’s first Ohio shop opened near Cincinnati on Sept. 2, according to a Springfield Township news release. Another location opened Sept. 10 in the Dayton area, WDTN reported. The company’s website lists an additional shop as “coming soon” to Milford, a Cincinnati suburb.
Dutch Bros was founded in 1992 in Oregon by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma. The chain was originally concentrated in the western United States but has since expanded as far east as South Carolina. As of June, the company reported 1,043 locations in 19 states.
The chain’s menu features a variety of hot, iced and blended coffee drinks. Other offerings include matcha, energy drinks, iced tea, lemonade, smoothies, milkshakes and hot cocoa in multiple flavors. Dutch Bros also sells snacks such as muffin tops—available in chocolate chip, lemon poppyseed and orange cranberry—as well as granola bars.
A Dutch Bros spokesperson said, “We’re in the very early stages, so we don’t have anything to share at this time,” when asked about an expected opening date for the Columbus location.
