The World Humanoid Robot Games have begun in Beijing, showcasing AI-powered robots in a variety of sporting events such as kickboxing, track, soccer, and dance. The competition features over 500 robots from 16 countries, including Japan, the United States, and Germany, participating in 26 events.
The event’s opening ceremony on Thursday included some initial challenges, such as a robot stumbling during the attempt to light the torch. In one notable incident, a robot was disqualified from the 1,500-meter race on Friday after its head detached mid-race. Wang Ziyi, a participant from Beijing Union University, highlighted that maintaining balance during movement is a primary challenge.
Additionally, during a soccer match on Friday, a robot’s fall caused a domino effect, leading to several others tripping, which necessitated human assistance to resolve. The games ended on Sunday.
