Traffic Stop On I-15 In Mesquite Leads To Seizure Of 68 Pounds of Meth

A traffic stop on Interstate 15 in Mesquite led to a significant drug bust involving nearly 70 pounds of methamphetamine. The Mesquite Police Department reported that Fredys Ortega Perez, a 24-year-old from Minnesota, was arrested after a K-9 officer uncovered about 68 pounds of methamphetamine in individually packaged parcels. These packages, containing a white crystal substance, have an estimated street value of $400,000. Coffee grounds were found with the packages, a tactic often used to mask the scent of drugs.

Perez, who resides in Big Lake, Minnesota, faces a felony charge for drug trafficking of a controlled substance exceeding 400 grams. He was listed as an inmate at the Clark County Detention Center by Thursday afternoon.

The arrest followed a traffic stop of Perez’s Mazda sedan, which was being driven erratically and significantly below the speed limit on Interstate 15 near mile marker 121.
