Cardi B, also known as Belcalis Almanzar, recently testified in a civil trial, where she denied allegations of assault and battery against a woman at an obstetrician’s office seven years ago. The trial has gained online attention due to Cardi B’s animated reactions and unusual questions regarding her wigs and nails.
Almanzar returned to the stand in an Alhambra, California courtroom, following a lawsuit filed by security guard Emani Ellis. Ellis accused the rapper of hitting and spitting on her during a 2018 confrontation at a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office. At that time, Almanzar was pregnant with her first child, which was not publicly known. While testifying, Almanzar denied any physical altercation and claimed Ellis recorded her without consent. Clips of her testimony have gone viral on platforms like TikTok and X, partly due to her expressive responses and peculiar questions about her wigs by Ellis’ attorney.
During the trial, Ellis’ lawyer, Ron Rosen, asked Almanzar about her hair, noting her changing hairstyles during the proceedings. In a widely viewed exchange, Rosen inquired if both hairstyles were her real hair, to which Almanzar responded they were wigs, causing laughter in the courtroom. Rosen’s questioning extended to Almanzar’s nails, asking her to display them and estimating their length, which related to Ellis’ claim that Almanzar scratched her during the incident.
The lawsuit, filed in 2020, includes accusations of assault, battery, and emotional distress against Almanzar. Ellis alleged that Almanzar’s behavior led to her job termination, though this claim was later dropped. According to Ellis, Almanzar became confrontational after realizing her pregnancy might be exposed. In contrast, Almanzar described the incident as purely verbal, admitting to using expletives but denying physical contact.
Separately, Almanzar is facing another assault lawsuit related to a 2023 Las Vegas performance, where she threw a microphone into the crowd after being hit with a drink. This incident also went viral, leading to further legal action against her.
