NBA veteran Marcus Morris has been charged with check fraud and theft, accused of defrauding two Las Vegas Strip casinos out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. According to court documents, Morris allegedly used about 50 checks to commit the fraud, totaling $265,000. The charges include writing a check with insufficient funds with intent to defraud and theft related to incidents at the MGM Grand and the Wynn in 2024.
Morris was arrested at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and is set to be extradited to Nevada following an out-of-state warrant. Las Vegas authorities had issued warrants for his arrest in March and June, both without bail.
In response to the allegations, Morris took to Instagram, claiming he had not engaged in fraud and that no money was taken from any casino into his possession. He stated he was unaware that a casino marker was considered a check.
Efforts to reach Morris’ lawyer, Cheryl Wilson, were unsuccessful, and the Clark County district attorney’s office has not commented. Morris, who had a 13-year NBA career with teams including the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Philadelphia 76ers, appears to be out of jail according to custody records.
