The Venetian Resort Las Vegas has agreed to a settlement involving a religious discrimination and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The settlement includes an $850,000 payment and the implementation of significant policy changes over a three-year consent decree period. The lawsuit, based on violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, alleged that The Venetian failed to accommodate the religious beliefs of its employees and retaliated against those who opposed the discrimination.
In response to the lawsuit, The Venetian has agreed to provide additional training on employee rights regarding religious accommodations and to hire a third party to review and update its policies. The settlement was reached without an admission of liability or wrongdoing by The Venetian.
The employees involved in the case represented various faiths, including Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Buddhism. The EEOC had filed the lawsuit after mediation efforts failed. The settlement amount will be paid by the current operators of The Venetian, following its acquisition in 2022 by VICI Properties Inc. and Apollo Global Management Inc. from Las Vegas Sands Corp.
