Chapman’s Eat Market, a German Village restaurant in Columbus run by the husband-and-wife team behind Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge, will close after five years of operation.
Owners B.J. Lieberman and Bronwyn Haines announced on social media last week that Chapman’s, located at 739 S. Third St. and opened in 2020, will permanently close at the end of August. As the restaurant approaches its fifth anniversary and the end of its lease, the couple said they “were faced with the difficult decision on whether or not to continue.”
“Inevitably, we chose to finish our story on a high note, celebrating all that we have accomplished and created over the years and within these walls, including the team that we’ve built and the memories we made,” they stated in the social media post.
Lieberman was a semifinalist for last year’s James Beard Awards, which honor excellence in the culinary and food media industries. He and Haines also opened Ginger Rabbit at 17 Buttles Ave. in 2022, and more recently, Metsi’s Wood-Fired Italian at 36 E. Lincoln St. last month.
Chapman’s, recognized by the New York Times as one of the best U.S. restaurants in 2021, offers a curated menu featuring appetizers, salads, pastas, and entrees such as Levantine cod, smoked Cornish game hen, and a 6-ounce beef tenderloin. The menu also includes sides like beef fat fries and wilted green beans.
Lieberman and Haines have not yet announced Chapman’s final day of service, which will be revealed in August. Until then, the restaurant remains open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
“We hope each and every one of you will join us for a final meal before we say goodbye—whether it’s your last General Tso’s cauliflower, khao soi, or maple budino, we look forward to serving and celebrating with you,” the couple shared on social media.
